Wonderful Counsellor Ministry: Advocating for Persecuted Believers
For over two decades, Wonderful Counsellor Ministry has been serving the Lord through churchbased outreach, providing support and advocacy for persecuted individuals particularly refugees who have fled their home countries due to religious persecution. Since 2001, we have been
actively involved in helping persecuted Christians both locally in Canada and globally, especially in regions like Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other Islamic countries, where non-Muslims face severe restrictions on their ability to worship freely.
Why We Advocate for Persecuted Christians
Many Christians in these countries live under oppression, but the situation is even more severe for Muslims who convert to Christianity. Conversion from Islam is considered a betrayal in many Islamic societies and is met with harsh consequences, including imprisonment, torture, or even the death penalty. Jesus warned His followers about this persecution:
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
(John 15:18, NIV)
Our mission is to advocate for those who suffer for their faith, to stand with them in their trials,
and to help them find refuge and safety where they can worship freely and grow in their faith.
How We Support Persecuted Refugees

1. Global Advocacy & Refugee Sponsorship
When persecuted individuals flee their home countries often seeking asylum in Turkey, Germany, Sweden, Canada, and other nations they face significant challenges in obtaining
refugee status. Many applications are rejected due to lack of proper documentation or official recognition of their faith journey.
To assist them, our ministry:
-
Communicates with the United Nations (UNHCR) to advocate for asylum seekers.
-
Writes letters to embassies to confirm their conversion to Christianity and the persecution they faced.
-
Supports their applications for government-sponsored refugee programs, ensuring they receive fair consideration.
-
Helps secure church-based sponsorship, when possible, without financial obligation from our church.

This work allows persecuted believers to resettle in safe countries where they can practice their
faith freely.
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
(Proverbs 24:11, NIV)

2. Local Support in Canada
We also assist new Christian converts in Canada who fear deportation due to the risk of persecution in their home countries. When an asylum seeker converts to Christianity in Canada, they often face difficulties proving their faith to the Immigration Refugee Board (IRB).
Our ministry provides:
-
Discipleship and Baptism ensuring their faith is genuine before supporting their asylum
claims. -
Letters of Confirmation verifying their journey of faith and the dangers they face if returned
home. -
Courtroom Support attending immigration and refugee hearings to testify on their behalf.
-
Church Community Integration connecting them with a faith-based support network.

Over the past 24 years, our team led by Faheem has participated in over 100 refugee court hearings in Canada. We have also supported asylum seekers in Europe, advocating for their right to religious freedom and protection.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute
(Proverbs 31:8, NIV)
Our Global Ministry Since 2011
While our local ministry in Canada has been active since 2001, we expanded internationally in 2011 when we launched a 10-year project in Turkey to support Iranian refugees. Since then, we have been working globally to assist persecuted Christians, offering:
Discipleship training and spiritual support.
Refugee sponsorship advocacy.
Direct assistance to persecuted believers in the Middle East and Europe.
Today, we continue to stand in the gap for those suffering for their faith, believing that God has called us to be a voice for the voiceless.
Remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
(Hebrews 13:3, NIV)
